Job Description

Drivers are responsible for operating ASC vehicles designed with wheelchair lifts and seats to safely transport passengers with physical, emotional, or developmental disabilities in a safe, courteous, and professional manner. This position is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to periodic background screening and drug testing, including random drug screens.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Transports children safely and efficiently.
  • Safely secure children in wheelchairs during the loading/unloading process.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety rules, regulations, and ASC policies and procedures at all times.
  • Maintain, support, and promote a safe environment while transporting individuals; Safeguard the welfare of the individuals and uphold their rights at all times.
  • Keeps the interior of the bus neat, clean, and free of debris.
  • Reports interior repairs (seat belts, car seats, etc.) to Lead Driver.
  • Attends to children as needed in emergencies.
  • Follows emergency procedures.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED certification
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities and two (2) years of experience working with intellectually and/or developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and a minimum of 3 years of driving experience. Must pass a written and practical road test.
  • Must be insurable through ASC’s automobile insurance policy.
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications
  • Must pass a Background, Drug screening, Physical/DOT Physical, and PPD
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English (read, write, and speak) with program participants, employees, peers, supervisors, and others.
