Construction Estimator (Commercial)

Industry: Commercial Renovation & Construction

Location: Tallahassee, FL

Compensation: Annual FT salary of $85,000 - $100,000, built-in bonus structure, and benefits package (see below)

Hours: 40-45 hours a week, typically Monday - Friday with occasional overtime extending to weekends

Summary of Qualifications:

• Four year degree or equivalent professional experience
• Five (5)+ years of professional experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator
• Prior experience with financial estimating software, spreadsheets, and MS Excel
• Ability to pass a drug and criminal background check
• Valid driver's license

About this position : We are looking for a seasoned Construction Estimator to join our team. This person will ensure that accurate bids, in accordance with bidding instructions, are prepared for all assigned projects, reviewed, and submitted to the prospective client within the required timeframe. The goal is to win enough profitable jobs for Oliver Sperry Renovation to meet or exceed our revenue objectives. This position will report to the CFO and the Sales Director. Essential Functions of the Construction Estimator:

• Communicates with the client to achieve a clear understanding of the scope of work, identify any special types of construction or special requirements, and identify needs and wants of the client
• Reviews plans, specifications, schedules, and related documentation to determine material requirements for any assigned estimating jobs
• Conducts field visits before the estimate to visually confirm the job conditions and may meet with architects, engineering firms, and owners in the development of a project
• Solicits accurate material estimates from qualified suppliers
• Creates a final estimated cost figure using the company’s accounting/estimate system
• Reviews all bids before submission for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the contract specifications
• Meets with the assigned Project Manager to review all aspects of the job and ensures that a proper hand off occurs between estimating and project management
• Tracks status of bids and provides the company’s owners with weekly status updates
• Researches geographic costs and logistical restraints that may impact estimates
• Ensures that job requirements and scope of work are written completely
• If a job is awarded, ensures that all necessary paperwork is transmitted to the Project Manager
• Tracks the number and dollar value of bids quoted and bids awarded quarterly
• Compares each project’s original cost estimates with what the final completed costs were
• Keeps current on the events within the local construction market to keep ahead of the competition
• Constantly reviews resource needs with the Operations Manager as well as the company’s overall scheduling of current and tentative projects
• Assists with writing, updating, and implementing procedures and policies for the company’s Estimating Department

Secondary Tasks (As Needed):

• Assists in the training and development of personnel to increase their effectiveness
• Attends company meetings
• Works with other company Estimators
• Handles other duties or special projects that may be assigned by the Owners

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is someone who:

• Has a four year degree or equivalent professional experience
• Has five (5)+ years of professional experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator
• Lives within a 40 minute drive of Tallahassee, Fl or is willing to relocate
• Has an excellent understanding of construction to determine accurate material take-offs and labor estimates
• Has prior experience with financial estimating software, spreadsheets, and MS Excel
• Has a valid driver's license
• Can pass both a drug and criminal background check
• Has strong attention to detail
• Has the ability to read, write, and understand English sufficiently to read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and related documentation with an understanding of how each relates to the overall job costs
• Communicates professionally
• Has a fundamental understanding of math to verify the accuracy of material take-offs
