Job Description

Our well established big brand retailer is hiring a Lead Product Designer.

This is a hybrid, long term contract role to Chicago.

Can pay $65-75/hourly on W2, plus benefit eligibility.

This role is ideal for an experienced design professional passionate about using design and technology to create impactful experiences that improve customer lives. You will use your expertise in user-centered design to collaborate with your partners and executives to define and align the strategy for your focus area with the broader portfolio and company vision.

You will coach junior designers in shaping big-picture workflows and product direction while delivering pixel-finish designs and intuitive prototypes. You will also mentor junior designers to be lean and agile, knowing when to push for perfection and when good enough is an opportunity for continuous learning and refinement. You will take a data-driven approach to continuously raise the bar on the quality of experiences you ship and coach junior designers to do the same.

Discovery & Delivery:

  • Take the Lead on early problem definition and vision by partnering with the experience research team to facilitate engaging discovery sessions that unearth customer pain points and uncover opportunities for innovation.
  • Represent the design team in scoping and estimation discussions, ensuring that all necessary work from each experience discipline is accounted for and included in the release plan and project timeline.
  • Collaborate with researchers and the insights team to gain a deep understanding of customer needs, defining opportunities through impactful usability testing, empathy mapping sessions, and thorough analysis of data trends.

  • Define and execute the experience design strategy for your area of focus.
  • Monitor customer behavior analytics, customer feedback, and other behavioral data to identify opportunities to enhance the customer experience and increase customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field
  • A minimum of 6 years experience in a product designer, UX designer, or UI designer role with a strong track record of crafting user interfaces that engage and delight users.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in interactive design principles, consistently delivering simple, elegant, and aesthetically pleasing interfaces rooted in usability and accessibility.
  • Demonstrated experience designing for desktop and mobile platforms, focusing on responsive and adaptive design that enhances the user experience across devices.
  • Demonstrated experience in industry-standard UX tools, including Sketch, Adobe CC, Figma, and Axure, ensuring efficient design workflows.
  • Experience working in highly matrixed product organizations
  • Experience with agile development practices.
  • A design portfolio that demonstrates expertise in human-centered design methodologies.
