Must possess an FAA certified flight instructor certificate (CFI). Must possess and maintain a First or Second Class FAA Airman Medical Certificate. Must have logged at a minimum of 1500 hours total time, 1200 Pilot in Command (PIC) with 500 hours of PIC Airplane. Must successfully complete and maintain Department of Interior (DOI) Office of Aviation Service (OAS) pilot training requirements per DOI/OAS policy (Operational Procedures Memorandum 22) and must obtain and maintain DOI/OAS Pilot Card (OAS-30) to operate a single engine fixed wing aircraft. Thorough knowledge and understanding of current FAA, DOI, and NPS policies and regulations regarding aircraft use, operation, and safety. Must maintain OAS (OPM-29) Special Use qualifications for: ?Low Level (Airplane) ?Mountainous Terrain (Airplane) ?Off Airport Operations-Wheels (Airplane) ?Reconnaissance (Airplane) Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to work as a team member.Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe AcrobatWeight and balance program like ForeflightDuties:Serve as pilot-in-command of fixed wing, single-engine aircraft equipped with wheels, floats and skis. Aircraft operations involve flights over remote terrain, and are conducted from gravel bars, beaches, unimproved tundra strips, ridge tops, lakes and swift flowing rivers. Flights may be conducted in adverse weather, turbulence and at low altitudes. Typical assignments include flying in the daytime under favorable weather conditions for such purposes as delivering passengers, supplies, or freight, conducting aerial surveys and performing law enforcement, wildland fire, and search and rescue patrols. A marked degree of hazard is present in the assignment requiring a high degree of skill and judgment.Serve as pilot-in-command of single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft equipped with wheels, skis, and floats. Aircraft operations involve flights over remote terrain, and are conducted from gravel bars, beaches, unimproved tundra strips, ridge tops, lakes, and swift flowing rivers. Flights may be conducted in adverse weather, turbulence, and at low altitudes. Performs pre-mission planning, prepares, and files flight plans using flight planning publications and maps, obtains and evaluates aviation weather reports and briefings. Performs preflight maintenance and operational checks on aircraft to determine air-worthiness. Checks loading of aircraft to ensure that weight and balance limitations are not exceeded. Job requires an in-depth working knowledge of safety regulations and procedures. Performs after maintenance run-up and flight checks to ensure correctness of repairs.70%Serve as a mentor to transition in a new pilot for Lake Clark National Park, including training the pilot on the park aircraft, park terrain, park ranger stations and other assets that require frequent aviation support, and other aviation resources within the park boundary.25%Maintains records including pilot training records, check ride expiration dates, flight hours, aircraft maintenance needs, aircraft inspection dates, and other information.5%Other:Yes, the pilot will need to maintain training currency per NPS, DOI and FAA policy and regulation. For the purpose of this part time position, it is likely that the initial check rides will suffice for the time employed in 2025.Required Certifications: Current for Top Cub and/or other Piper cub models on wheels and ready for a check ride by DOI Office of Aviation Services. If unable to pass this OAS check ride in the first 6 weeks of employment, enrollee will not be able to continue in the role.Overnight travel: This position will be based mostly in Port Alsworth but may require 2-3 nights per month at other locations depending on the mission or weatherAir travel anticipated: Routinely, it is a pilot positionHealth and Safety Considerations: This pilot will become familiar with NPS risk assessment and, if schedule permits, attend an NPS operational leadership class.Required Safety Gear: Proper personal protective equipment is required on all flights. The government will provide this equipment and train the pilot on the use of the issued PPE.Physical requirements: Aviation work frequently requires stressful activities and/or occasionally strenuous physical exertion. This work also requires some manual dexterity and other physical activities (e.g., listening, kneeling, standing, sitting, stooping, talking; walking, loading and unloading personnel and equipment, etc.) in all types of terrain with regard to the normal aviation environment, i.e., airstrips, hangars, tarmacs, lakes, rivers, ponds, and other areas where an airplane may be parked such that an inspection or maintenance of the airplane is likely to be performed. The enrollee must be emotionally, mentally, and physically sound. As pilot, the enrollee may be required to stay airborne for several hours at a time.
