We partner with leading energy and power generation companies to provide skilled business professionals who keep critical operations running smoothly. This role supports procurement and sourcing activities at the client's location in Pekin, IL, part of a high-performing energy generation network.
Primary Function
The Principal Sourcing Specialist is responsible for managing operational procurement for assigned business units. This includes supplier sourcing, competitive pricing, purchase order management, and collaboration with business stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services. The role also provides coaching to procurement team members and supports process improvements and project-based procurement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
· Process purchase requisitions and convert them into purchase orders with competitive, qualified suppliers
· Conduct supplier research, RFQs, and pricing analysis while ensuring compliance with supply chain policies
· Engage directly with suppliers to support selection, negotiations, delivery, and issue resolution
· Collaborate with strategic sourcing to align operational purchasing with enterprise agreements
· Track savings and performance metrics for procurement activities
· Update blanket agreements and maintain pricing accuracy
· Support outage planning and project-based procurement needs
· Provide mentoring and coaching to junior procurement staff
· Lead operational procurement process improvement initiatives and reporting
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
· High School Diploma
· 5+ years of procurement experience
· Strong negotiation skills
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Power BI)
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Engineering
· 5–7 years sourcing experience in Generation, Retail, or Corporate spend categories
· SAP experience (1+ years)
· ISM CPSM certification
· Prior supply management experience in energy, utilities, or related industries
Other Information
· Schedule: 40 hours per week, standard timesheet (weekly)
· Work Setting: On-site in Pekin, IL (plant/office environment)
· Travel: 5–10% (regional, plant-to-plant)
· Overtime: Occasional, based on project needs
· Pay Rate Range: $49 – $52 per hour
