About the Role

The Risk & Asset Specialist works closely with and supports the Risk & Asset Manager, to manage comprehensive risk programs (safety initiatives and insurance coverage) and oversee the company's physical assets (fleet, equipment, and facilities). This role acts as the primary backup to the Risk & Asset Manager, ensuring continuity of operations and maintaining the highest standards of safety and asset management. This role may work closely with third-party safety contractors based on company needs.

What You'll Do

Risk Management:

  • Lead safety program implementation across operational areas, working closely with Risk & Asset Manager, Talent & Culture team, managers, and third-party safety providers
  • Conduct safety training sessions for employees, collaborating with Risk & Asset Manager, Talent & Culture team, managers, and third-party safety providers
  • Assist in administering company insurance policies including auto, general liability, workers' compensation, and property
  • Communicate with insurance partners, process and track insurance claims
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and prepare required reporting documentation
  • Lead accident/incident investigations and develop preventative measures
  • Perform safety inspections of facilities, vehicles, and job sites, coordinating with third-party safety providers when needed
  • Analyze risk data to identify trends and implement mitigation strategies

Asset Management:

  • Manage preventive maintenance programs and contribute to strategic decisions on asset lifecycle management
  • Support and contribute to decision-making for vehicle acquisition, disposal, and fleet optimization strategies
  • Lead facilities management initiatives and contribute to decisions regarding operational efficiency improvements
  • Utilize and help develop tracking systems and performance optimization strategies
  • Create and modify fleet and facilities policies in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct analysis of asset performance metrics and make strategic recommendations
  • Work closely with Risk and Asset Manager to negotiate with vendors and approve asset-related contracts within established parameters
  • Contribute to the management of complex asset deployment strategies across multiple locations
  • Provide regular updates to the management team and keep relevant parties well-informed via established channels of communication as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Occupational Safety, Risk Management, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in risk management, with a focus on safety, asset management, or related fields
  • 3+ years of experience conducting safety onsite inspections and field safety training and coaching
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and relevant regulatory requirements
  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgment on matters significantly affecting business operations
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strategic thinking capabilities
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and contract negotiations
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • 5+ years of experience in the landscape, construction, or related industry
  • Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CPFM, ARM, or equivalent credentials
  • Experience with multi-state operations and regulatory compliance
  • Basic knowledge of small equipment and mechanical knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in budget planning and financial analysis
  • Proven track record in insurance program management and claims reduction
  • Leadership experience with team supervision or mentoring

Physical Requirements

This role involves regular visits to job sites and operational facilities, with some physical activity including working outdoors in various weather conditions. You should be comfortable traveling between field locations within our service areas.
