HDC San Diego (Hockey Development Center) is a premier hockey training center offering unique and effective programs to individuals, small groups, and teams. The center provides a comprehensive facility where athletes can work one-on-one with accredited trainers to achieve their maximum potential. The facility is divided into three zones, each focusing on different areas of development to cater to athletes of all levels.

Role Description

The role of the strength trainer is to work directly with athletes to improve their athleticism and strength, specific to hockey players or other sports where applicable. Areas of application include stretching, weight training, plyometrics, cardio conditioning, and more. The strength trainer will utilize BeeSport diagnostic tools to establish a baseline and goals for the player. The trainer will be a partner to the players, providing feedback and

motivation as they train. All trainers are responsible for attracting new customers by engaging with local athletes

and teams both in person and by phone/social media. A robust network of athletes is essential.

• Must hold a recognized certification in strength and conditioning or personal
• training (e.g., CSCS, NASM-CPT, ACE, ISSA).
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience training athletes, preferably in a gym or sports
• team setting.
• Knowledge of hockey-specific strength needs (e.g., lower-body power, core stability,
• rotational strength) or experience with similar athletic populations (e.g., soccer,
• lacrosse) is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and basic computer skills for scheduling
• and tracking progress.
• Must have a positive attitude, be reliable, and possess excellent interpersonal and
• communication skills with players and employees, both in person and by
• phone/social media.
• First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy gym equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is exposed to moderate noise levels.
• Work responsibilities will be performed in a gym, and potentially in the hockey skating/training area on synthetic ice.
• Meeting and class presentations may be required to groups, teams, and industry professionals.
• Maintenance and cleaning equipment that includes floor cleaners, vacuums, mops, and any other equipment associated with use in a recreational facility.
• International travel required for training. Some occasional additional travel may be required. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away for one or more nights.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and some holidays.
