Job Description: Tanking Manager

Position: Tanking Manager

Location: Virginia Transformer Corp

Reports To: Plant Manager

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Tanking Manager to oversee and manage the tanking process of transformers at Virginia Transformer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transformer manufacturing, specifically in tanking operations and oil management, and possess exceptional leadership and organizational skills. This role will ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in tanking operations while meeting weekly production targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and Manage Tanking Operations:

  • Oversee the entire tanking process, from the preparation and assembly of components to the final installation and testing of tanks.
  • Ensure the proper alignment and positioning of transformer cores within tanks.
  • Manage oil filling, processing, and monitoring to ensure optimal transformer performance and compliance with specifications.

Production Scheduling and Targets:

  • Work closely with production planning teams to schedule and prioritize tanking activities for on-time completion.
  • Ensure the team meets the weekly target of completing 10 transformers.
  • Monitor production workflow and allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines.

Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain strict quality standards to ensure that all tanking processes meet customer specifications and industry requirements.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to address and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Implement and monitor initiatives aimed at reducing rework and ensuring first-pass success.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify areas for improvement in tanking and oil management processes and implement best practices to optimize efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures for tanking and oil management activities.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of supervisors and superintendents to maintain high productivity and performance.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies throughout the tanking and oil management processes.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective measures as needed.

Collaboration:

  • Coordinate with other departments, including engineering, procurement, and quality, to ensure smooth tanking operations.
  • Support cross-functional teams in troubleshooting and resolving tank-related issues.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in transformer manufacturing, with specific expertise in tanking operations and oil management.
  • Strong understanding of transformer tank designs, oil processing, and manufacturing processes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of transformer components, tanking procedures, and oil handling.
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • On-time completion of tanking tasks with a target of 10 transformers per week.
  • Achievement of quality metrics and reduction in defects and rework.
  • Successful implementation of process improvements and efficiency gains.
