The UC College of Nursing is seeking nurses for time limited, part-time (25% FTE) non-benefits eligible nurse intervener positions supporting the “Telehealth Assessment and Skill-Building Intervention for Stroke Caregivers” project (UC IRB Study # 2022-0180; NIH/NINR R01NR020184). The purpose of this study is to test a program for family Skill-Building Kit (TASK III). We are comparing the TASK III program with another program called the Information Support and Referral (ISR) program. This grant funded project is time limited and projected to last through January 31, 2027.
About 300 family caregivers of stroke survivors will take part in the study. Caregivers will be randomized to the TASK III group or to the ISR group (150/group). Both groups will receive 8 weekly calls from a nurse, with a booster call a month later. Data collection calls will be made by a blinded data collector at baseline (after discharge home), 8 weeks (end of intervention), 12 weeks (after booster session), and at 24 and 52 weeks (follow-up). Long-term, our hopes are to provide the evidence needed to implement the TASK III program into ongoing stroke systems of care. Nurse interveners will be responsible for delivering calls to stroke family caregivers randomized to the TASK III and ISR groups using structured protocols. Nurses will attend training sessions, weekly research team meetings, and performance evaluation sessions. Management of audio-recorded sessions, transcription, data entry, and documentation will be necessary. Additional duties may include recruitment and screening of potential study participants, obtaining informed consent, assisting the Principal Investigator and the Project Manager with day to day operations of the grant, and other study related duties.
For candidates to be successful in this role, they should possess the following basic computer skills including the ability to type and enter data, ability to communicate in person and by telephone, videoconferencing, email, and text. Possess basic audio-recording and online calendar skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience interacting with patients and or family caregivers. The successful candidate must also have strong interpersonal skills, be dependable and efficient with time management skills.
• Deliver TASK III and/or ISR interventions according to protocol, including management of audio-recorded sessions, transcription, data entry, and documentation.
• Participate in weekly scheduled research team meetings, as well as training and performance evaluation sessions and focus groups as requested.
• Provide recruitment and screening of potential study participants, including obtaining informed consent for those who are eligible.
