Summary

The Summer Nurse is based on site at Yale and has a key role in maintaining all welfare standards for c. 240 staff and participants on the campus summer school program. Reporting to the Program Director the job holder deals with a wide range of daily compliance duties, as well as daily health issues and queries. This person puts the welfare of staff and students at the forefront of everything throughout the duration of the program.

Key responsibilities

As a qualified Registered Nurse, the job holder will be responsible for:

• Reviewing and advising on pre-arrival medical forms for both East Coast Campuses.
• Checking all participant and staff records are in order and filling any information shortfalls upon their arrival.
• Following company safeguarding policies and health protocols at all times.
• Running the campus welfare office to appropriate health standards.
• Training support staff in medication administration and maintaining detailed training records.
• Issuing OTC medication according to consulting physician’s orders.
• Daily control and security of individual participant-prescribed medication.
• Issue of daily dosage of this medication.
• Administration and recording of individual health issues.
• Strict maintenance of the campus medical log and other records
• Liaising as necessary with the Campus Directors of First Aid.

Position details:

• This role will be based at our summer site in Yale from 25 June to 26 July 2025.
• Working hours will be approximately 14 hours per week across 7 days. This includes morning and late afternoon shifts daily at predetermined times.
• There will also be an involvement of approximately 5 days before the programme start for training and preparation.
• The salary for this position is $30-40/h, depending on qualifications and experience.
• Mandatory training and campus set up will take place during the week before student arrivals.

Essential Qualifications / Experience:

• MUST be either

• Physician with a current CT license (or physicians who are licensed in another state, whose standards are equivalent to or greater than those required in Connecticut state)

• Physician Assistant with a current CT license “PA”

• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with a current CT license “APRN”

• Registered Nurse with a current CT license “RN”

• Licensed Practical Nurse with a current CT license “LPN”

• Worked in an educational setting
• Administrative experience relating to daily controls over medications
• Some experience working with children and young people.

Desirable Experience:

• Compliance under State Legislation for Summer Camp Licenses
• Summer School duties in a university setting
